At a GlanceLegrand has an exciting opportunity for a Director of
Engineering to join the Finelite Team in Union City, CA. The
Engineering Director inspires, motivates, and communicates the
company's vision to employees, peers, customers, and suppliers. He
or she champions a culture of quality, customer-focused innovation,
and efficiency. The Director also provides leadership, motivation,
accountability and direction to the design engineering team.What
Will You Do?Essential Functions: - Manages Engineering resources to
develop robust best practices for new product development and
provides expert technical guidance for engineering initiatives -
Leads the team with deep passion through coaching/mentoring -
Participates in business development activities for new product
opportunities and technical discussions. - Attends customer visits
and meetings to lead and support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and
cost containment efforts - Interacts and collaborates with peers
and colleagues of other Legrand sites to benchmark and share best
practices. - Manages open projects clearly and communicates
progress and deliverables to management and production teams. -
Resolves problems using solutions that involve new techniques,
technologies, or concepts. - Support QA and QC with customer
complaints and product defect/failure investigations. - Confers
with management, production, and marketing staff to determine
engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand
for new and existing products. - Establishes and maintains proper
tools, technology and software requirements for engineering and
process development needs. - Proactively identifies and alerts the
organization of quality issues/complaints in time to resolve
potential adverse effects to the customer, company image/reputation
and/or the business. - Incorporates DFM/DFA/DFX principles early in
the product development process - Champions early cross-functional
involvement and enforces new product development phase/gate checks
and formal approvals - Supports customs engineering by
participating in design reviews, approvals, and releasesRequired
SkillsQualification and Education Requirements: - Bachelor's degree
in Mechanical Engineering or a related field - Must have a minimum
of 10 years of related industry experience - Must have a minimum of
5 years of experience directly managing/mentoring a team - Proven
ability to deliver high quality products in timely manner -
Experience with high volume production of Plastics and Aluminum
extrusions, Stamping Dies, CNC machining) - Proven capability to
influence within an organization, align and negotiate with key
stakeholders, and have a strong sense of team accountability -
Experience in Lighting and related fields a plus - Experience in
soliciting, hiring, working with and managing contracted engineers,
developers, and engineering firms. - An entrepreneurial and

stretch the organization and push the boundaries within the
