Role Description The Sr. Product/Sustaining Engineering Manager (P/SEM) will work as a member of the research and development team to provide engineering oversight for improvements and updates to diagnostic devices throughout the product life cycle. The P/SEM will contribute during the Stage Gate development process with increasing involvement as the product reaches the Release To Market (RTM) milestone. After RTM the P/SEM is responsible for guiding all design changes including product design, development, testing, and integration of electro-mechanical, thermal, and optical sub-systems into on-market diagnostic products. The P/SEM will apply best practice development strategy and advanced technical concepts to solve complex problems, distilling them down to effective product updates which strike the balance of functionality, usability and minimizing manufacturing and repair impacts. The P/SEM will be guided by a stage gate development process prior to RTM and a engineering change control process after RTM The P/SEM will be expected to resolve complex technical challenges that arise during product the product life cycle. The P/SEM will work with a global team within the Veterinary Medicine Research and Development (VMRD) organization, in close collaboration with cross functional teams, including Product Engineers, Quality Representatives, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Suppliers, under the direction of VMRD leadership. The P/SEM will lead a small to medium team of engineers with diverse technical backgrounds.The P/SEM oversees the team for primary design responsibility from RTM until the product is sunset. The P/SEM will lead the Product Engineering teams ensuring product performance is maintained or improved while preventing stopping the manufacturing lines. This will ensure that the operations team is successful in manufacturing success, managing supplier readiness for supplied parts, initial install/implementation oversight in manufacturing facilities, and product support (issue resolution) after RTM.Responsibilities* Carry the leadership role of the product support engineering effort with GMT, GMS, and Quality such that product commercialization is achieved through product lifecycle and supply base relationships.* Responsible for proper engineering oversight of VMRD product design change release & collaborative change management process into GMS SAP systems.* Grow and maintain technical knowledge with advancing technology related to technology and product development of in-vitro diagnostic devices. Including developing product SMEs in multiple engineering disciplines.* Work with Global Manufacturing Services to consider high volume assembly process in design changes (Design for Manufacturability). Analyze and recommend improvements of production processes and methods to facilitate cost reduction and quality improvement.* Participate in the oversight of Contract Product Manufacturing (external partner/OEM's)* Design and development of all electro-mechanical and thermodynamic control sequences required by product requirements, while understanding the interface to electrical control systems and underlying biological process needs for all design changes and updates.* Prepare documentation for change control activities and efforts.* Develop and implement mechanical, electrical, and system design changes, perform sensitivity analysis, timing analysis, or other design analysis as required.* Assessment of system level risks, and proposing, evaluating, and implementing mitigations for all design changes.* Ensure designs continue to meet and exceed product specifications, regulatory requirements, and international standards after design changes.* Proficient in communicating complex technical situations in an understandable way to non-technical collaborators.* Work cross functionally in a global organization, deploy engineering best practices in the context of a change control process, and navigate satisfying product technical specifications as prescribed by customer and market requirements for all design changes.* Participate in system engineering for complex electromechanical/thermodynamic/optical systems to update product specifications and controls interactions of each system.* Analyze and recommend corrective actions in case of any design issues.* Extensive interaction with suppliers in design, analysis, and other technical liaison requirements.* As required, produce detailed drawings, BOMs and release documents for the above design change activities.* Seek opportunities to enhance product offerings across the portfolio, consistent with the Zoetis strategy to drive a continuum of care (predict, prevent, detect, and treat) in addressing unmet customer needs.Education & Experience* B.S. in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, MSME/MSEE or PE preferred. Minimum of 15 years demonstrated engineering experience in a complex engineered product environment. Quality Management System understanding a must.* 15 years of experience in developing animal health devices/systems/products* 15 years of experience working with Design and Implementation teams, Operations (Manufacturing, Quality, Metrology) and suppliers from an engineering, technical perspective.* 3 to 5 years of experience leading, managing, developing product development team membersTechnical Skill Requirements* SAP understanding, Engineering Change Management in PLM environment* Root cause analysis techniques and documentation.* Demonstrated proficiency in engineering specifications and design for automated equipment.* Knowledge of materials and manufacturing/construction principles.* Demonstrated experience with CAD systems, drawing storage/control, SAP, and other engineering tools.* Demonstrated experience in critical thinking and problem-solving skills, planning and organizing, decision-making* Demonstrated experience in development of electromechanical product assemblies, including PCBAs, is desirable* Excellent communication skills, influencing and leading, facilitationFull timeRegularColleagueAny unsolicited resumes sent to Zoetis from a third party, such as an Agency recruiter, including unsolicited resumes sent to a Zoetis mailing address, fax machine or email address, directly to Zoetis employees, or to Zoetis resume database will be considered Zoetis property.
