more!Job SummaryThe Director/VP of Purchasing for the Industrial
business segment will be responsible for developing and directing
the purchasing strategy for their respective segment. The
individual will work closely with the Segment and BU leads to
understand growth initiatives and work to support these goals
utilizing strategic vendor/partners.Note: - For any applicants
interested in this position who are already an officer in the
company, their Vice President title and status will be allowed to
continue in this role. - For all other applicants, the Director or
VP title will depend on credentials and experience level of the
employee. -Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and
accomplish goals; performs a variety of tasks; leads and directs
the work of others; and a wide degree of creativity and latitude is
expected.Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with the BU leads within the segment to develop purchasing
strategies that align with their growth goals
- Communication link for the Segment lead and national sales
- Work with other Purchasing Directors/VPs to insure we are
leveraging our spend
- Develop personnel depth plan for their respective team
- Work with vendors on new products to meet the goals of the
segment
- Cost management - drive down purchasing cost as a percentage of
volume purchased
- Oversee lumber, panel, imports, and EWP, and procurement, as
well as other specialty items
- Develop solid working relationships with UFP plants and senior
leadership
- Represent the corporation in vendor and industry events
- Guide the strategic initiatives to expand raw material
footprint to complement the respective business segment's continued
growth
- Lead by example and provide clear objectives for the team
- Ensure that all applicable laws and procedures are adhered
to
- Work with plants/departments within defined segment to help
determine raw material and growth strategies
- Help mentor department and other UFP employees
- Develop budgets, prepare various reports: market trends,
direction, financial etc.
- Ensure UFP operates in compliance with all applicable laws in
area of influenceQualifications
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in related discipline
- Minimum of 10 years of industry experience, with at least 5
years of experience in sales, procurement, or operations
management
- Broad knowledge of panels, southern yellow pine, SPF, western
species, engineered wood, etc.
- Preferred experience and knowledge with UFP's organization,
culture, product lines and production capacity
- Strong organizational and strategic planning skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and develop teams
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate transactions at a high
level
- Ability to successfully interact with all organizational levels
and the public
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
- Strong business judgement, decision making skills, and
prioritization of tasks at hand
- Able to analyze key reports, drawing conclusions and
formulating strategies
- Ability to work on multiple priorities simultaneously, both
long and short term
- Ability to pass a drug testWorking ConditionsWorking
environment is generally favorable. -Requires sitting and/or
standing at a workstation for long periods of time. Position also
requires ability to travel via both air and car. Overnight stays
will be somewhat common.
