Responsibilities of the Chief of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
Service: Service Leadership and Management: Plan, develop,
coordinate, direct, and evaluate the Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation Service for both outpatients and inpatients at VA
NorCal. Perform wide-ranging and high-level management functions
for the medical center or at the VISN level by participating in
planning and oversight boards, councils, and committees. Program
Development and Maintenance: Develop and maintain ongoing programs
in the areas of professional peer reviews, organizational
improvement, continuing education, scope of practice, clinical
privileging, and other quality improvement activities. Direct
Patient Care: Provide direct health care to Veterans within the
incumbent's area of expertise. Policy Implementation and
Compliance: Hold overall responsibility and accountability for the
implementation and maintenance of new and established policies.
Provide overall direction in the continuous operation of the
service line. Monitor and ensure medical staff compliance with
agency regulations, medical staff bylaws, The Joint Commission
